Take an Alexander Technique lesson with me

Learn more about the body and mind you inhabit every day.

In an Alexander Technique lesson, weโ€™ll explore how to bring more ease into everyday activities, whether itโ€™s something you do for fun, work, or simply being. We do this by understanding how the body is designed to move, noticing where we might be adding unnecessary effort, and exploring options that support you.

My own journey with this work started when I developed repetitive strain injuries in both arms over 10 years ago. Using Alexander Technique, I've learned to work without pain, and am living a richer life, with a greater sense of agency.

Inspired to work with other people on their own paths, I've been training to teach Alexander Technique since November of 2021. Iโ€™m now in my final phase of training. Teaching practice lessons helps me grow as a teacher, while offering you a chance to experience the work.

  • ๐Ÿ•’ Lesson length: 50 minutes

  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Crown Heights, Brooklyn (off the A train)

  • ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Accessibility: Ramp into building, and elevator to my floor

  • ๐Ÿค Cost: 1 free lesson, and then a sliding scale student teacher rate of $20 - $60

I'd appreciate you sharing my info with trusted friends who may be interested in this work.

What kinds of things can we work on?

Alexander technique is fundamentally about our ability to make conscious choices. Our habits are the water we swim in, and so it can be hard to see where we have agency and choice available. You can come with any topic where you want to have more awareness and freedom, whether physical or mental. Some examples are:

  • Discomfort or pain while doing an activity

  • Performance anxiety

  • Feeling stuck in patterns that aren't serving you

  • Desiring more access to your full creative potential

What's a lesson like?

I'll start by asking you about what you'd like to be easier or different. This will shape what we explore and how. We can work directly on an activity together - the idea is for you to walk away with something you can apply in your life. Some of the tools we'll use are:

  • I'll use gentle hands on contact to help you experience new ways of being in your body
  • We'll try doing things multiple ways, and I'll ask you about what you're noticing
  • I'll bring in the anatomy and mechanics relevant to what we're exploring
  • We'll experiment with how you're using your attention
Where am I studying Alexander Technique?

I'm studying at the Contemporary Alexander School with Robyn Avalon, in the lineage of Marjorie Barstow.
